The first night is a loop
Wood, stone, a bed, then food. A diamond hunt before a bed is how you lose the spawn. Light the perimeter or the next night eats the animals.

Iron, food, and XP farms beat strip-mining forever. A nether roof or a safe tunnel cuts overworld walks. Mark portals or you will build a second base by accident.
